Deep Twitter Integration Will Use in iOS 5 (Rumor)

TechCrunch has reported that Apple was looking to integrate Twitter in their next generation operating system iOS 5. It is quite interesting to see if Apple will bring twitter integration on iOS 5 or not.

With twitter integration on iOS 5, the iPhone user will able to share their photos directly to Twitter from their device possibly using the twimg.com as per the Siegler. Furthermore Grubber from Daring Fireball put some more twist on this rumors. He pointed the statement:

“So close to the bigger story, but yet so far. Imagine what else the system could provide if your Twitter account was a system-level service.”

Now the whole thing is just nothing more than the rumors but would be great to Apple's fan if it becomes available on iOS 5.

Deep Twitter integration with iOS is something that makes sense, so much sense in fact that it’s surprising we’re only just hearing rumors about it now.

Modern Warfare 3 gameplay cinematic released

FIinally, Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist at Inifinity Ward, tweeted that tonight we would see a world-premiere of the gameplay coming in Modern Warfare 3. As per himaround 9pm ET/6pm PT we’d see the trailer on TV during the NBA Western Conference Finals. A full hour early, he posted the video to YouTube, and it doesn’t disappoint.

If you’ve been following the leaks and information releases around Modern Warfare 3, none of the gameplay will surprised you. What may surprise you though is how good everything looks. Everything in the cinematic is actual game footage, not pre-rendered or dressed-up cinematic sequences. The full trailer builds on the teasers already posted to the Call of Duty YouTube channel, but now we get to see how the battles in some of the world’s major cities will play out.

The video is a world tour of some of the places around the globe where players will get to experience the game, from street battles on the streets of Paris to swimming through flooded New York City subways. Near the end of the video, we’re treated to a little tidbit of story, and at first the initial “WW3,” which turns and becomes “MW3,” implying this global conflict may be bigger than we initially anticipated. Modern Warfare 3 lands on store shelves November 8th.

ShakeCall Allows You To Receive And End Calls With A Shake (Android)

ShakCall, an android apps allows you to make receive and end calls with shake. It is free and very handy application for you as you you don't need to touch screen to receive and end calls.

The app begins to monitor feedback from your phone’s accelerometer and proximity sensor in the event of a incoming/outgoing call and receives/ends a call whenever the monitored values match or exceed those defined by the user, subsequently causing the phone to vibrate (as per default settings). Launch the app from your app drawer to alter the required Shaking Intensity and Proximity Sensor Value, toggle vibration on call receive/end, toggle the toast suggestion that appears whenever a call is connected and test if the settings suit you via the Sensor Virtual Call Test option.

The Disconnect Call Fix option, when enabled, ensures that calls do not disconnect while you’re holding the phone to your ear.

As of this writing, receiving calls via the proximity sensor (holding the phone to your ear or placing your hand over the ear piece) only works when the Shaking to receive call option is enabled. Hopefully, future updates will allow the user to use one or both of the options at a time.

We've known Samsung's Infuse 4G was coming to AT&T since the day we got our grubby mitts on one at CES, and now it's finally here.
Samsung's svelte superphone with the dazzling 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display is launching May 15th on AT&T for $200 on a two-year contract. Keep it locked right here, as more pics and a hands-on with Sammy's hot new handset are on the way.

Behind that sizable screen real estate, the Infuse 4G packs HSDPA Cat 14 and HSUPA Cat 6 radios, a 2GB microSD card, 1.2 GHz processor, and Android 2.2. Sammy also gave it an 8-megapixel camera in the back that does 720p video and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter -- all in a handset that's 9.24mm thick in the bulge at the bottom and 8.9mm thin most everywhere else. Samsung Infuse 4G hands-on (updated)

We've seen it powered down and had it dangled in front of us and now, four months after its launch, we've finally had a chance to play with a real, working Samsung Infuse 4G. This 4.5-inch superphone -- the biggest Sammy has made to date -- feels surprisingly light in the hands, despite its width. That's largely thanks to its crazy-thin 8.99mm profile, along with a subtly textured backside. The Super AMOLED Plus display -- the same kind found on the smaller Droid Charge -- which promises to be brighter than Super AMOLED as well as easier to view in direct sunlight, is simply stunning. We were seriously impressed by the punchy colors and deep blacks, although that outdoor test will have to wait for another day.

Blessedly, Samsung lets those vibrant colors speak for themselves -- it loaded the phone with Android 2.2 and abstained from saddling it with its TouchWiz UI made its TouchWiz UI less intrusive out of the box. The handset packs a single -- not dual -- core 1.2GHz processor, but you won't notice or care how many cores it has unless you're a benchmark junkie -- the phone launches applications briskly, while the touchscreen is responsive and always precise. We noticed nary a delay as we swiped among the seven home screens and three application pages. Speaking of speed, this is AT&T's first device to promise max speeds of 21 Mbps. Samsung held its press event in a New York City restaurant with poor reception, alas, and we have a feeling the crawling rates we observed off-camera don't do this phone justice. We're walking out of here with one of these bad boys, and we're stoked to fully put it through its paces over the next few days.

Install CyanogenMod 7 Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 On LG Optimus 2X

STEPS

1. Root LG Optimus 2X and install ROM Manager from Android market. No need to go for the paid version, free one will do.

Use this QR code to install ROM Manager.

We have a step by step guide on how to install CyanogenMod ROMs using ROM Manager, but for your convenience we are repeating the steps for LG Optimus 2X here.

2. After installation, open ROM Manager and tap ‘Flash ClockworkMod Recovery’.

For installing CyanogenMod ROMs, you need to first download and install ClockworkMod Recovery.

3. From the list of devices, select ‘LG Optimus 2X’.

4. Let ROM Manager download and install the recovery file, which could take quite a while depending on your network speed.

5. After ClockworkMod Recovery installation is done, go ahead and reboot your phone.

6. Once again launch ROM Manager and tap ‘Download ROM’.

7. From the list, select CyanogenMod 7 and check the option ‘Google Apps’ if you like.

8. Once the download is complete, you will be asked if you like to ‘Backup Existing ROM’ and also ‘Wipe Data and Cache’ before proceeding with the installation. Tap ‘Yes’.

9. Let the process of flashing CyanogenMod 7 onto your device complete.

That’s it. Your LG Optimus 2X will now reboot and it will be on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread based CyanogenMod 7.

After Google (Samsung) Nexus S, it’s time for the Google Nexus One to get the Gingerbread feast. Google has started rolling out the official Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the Nexus One. It should hit your device in couple of days.

For the impatient, there is always a work-around. Here is how you can manually download and install the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update on your Nexus One.

MANUAL UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Download Android 2.3.4 update for Nexus One (GRJ22-from-GRI40.zip) to your computer.

2. Rename it to update.zip. Make sure it’s not ‘update.zip.zip’!

2. Connect your Nexus One to computer via USB cable.

3. Copy the update.zip to phone’s internal SD Card at root level. Don’t unzip the contents.

4. Disconnect USB connection and power off the phone.

5. Reboot the phone into ‘Recovery mode’. To do it, press and hold “Volume Down” key and “Power” button simultaneously for few seconds and release it.

6. In the Recovery mode, use volume button to navigate through “Recovery” and press “Power” button to select it.

7. You will see the “!” symbol. Then hold the “Power” button and then press the “Volume Up” button.

8. In the recovery options, choose ““apply update from /sdcard” option.

9. Select the update.zip file on your sdcard and then press the “Power” button to flash it.

10. Wait for the Android 2.3.4 upgrade process to complete.

After a automatic reboot, you have successfully upgraded the Nexus One to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

Alright people, we’re not sure if you’re waiting for this one or not, but Microsoft’s much hyped KIN, aka the “pink phone” will be available for pre-order on Verizon’s website starting tomorrow and will hit the Verizon store shelves on May 13th.

Now if you’re wondering if we’re excited about the KIN phones? To be quite honest, not that much. The phone isn’t that special, we’ve seen other phones around us do the same thing but the fact that the KIN One and Two are dedicated completely to social networking, it does send chills down the spine to some. Will it be an iPhone killer? Some people might say maybe, but we think it’s a straight forward NO. The KIN’s software is a cross between Windows Phone 7 and the Zune HD’s software, which turns out to be something really unique.

The phones are aimed at the youth, hence the funky and unique form factors. The data charges on Verizon for the KIN are $30 a month, that’s not that bad if you’re really going to shake the hell out of Facebook with the KIN, but it’s expensive if you’re just going to keep the phone in your pocket. KIN One will sell for $49.99 and the Kin Two for $99.99 after a $100 mail in rebate, that’s quite fair if you do receive your $100 rebate on time. In case if you’re feeling too lazy to order it online, you can get your hands on both these devices on Verizon stores May 13th onwards.

Nokia transfers Symbian development and 3,000 employees to Accenture, will downsize workforce by further 4,000

Nokia's already done quite a bit to cut ties with last year's big push for Symbian and Qt development, though this is perhaps the biggest step yet.
The Finnish company has announced it's transferring responsibility for Symbian development to consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture, which sounds odd given the latter outfit's inexperience in delivering mobile OS updates, but the good news is that the 3,000 devs Nokia had working on Symbian will continue their jobs under the new employer. That basically means that Nokia will live up to its unhappy promise that there'll be "substantial reductions in employment" within its own ranks, while still keeping the men and women responsible for updating Symbian employed. Unfortunately, there will still be a further 4,000 job cuts in the company's global workforce, primarily in Finland, Denmark and the UK, which will "occur in phases" between the beginning and end of next year. Nokia's agreement with Accenture also involves continued collaboration on delivering mobility software and services on the Windows Phone platform. Jailbreakers everywhere rejoice! If you have an iPad and have always wanted those apps on your phone, today is your day. Also, get that iPhone 4 unlocked, with our how-to guide posted with the new Ultrasnow update. The Ultrasnow version 1.2.2 supports the carrier unlock for iOS 4.3.2 on iPhone 4, allowing you the freedom to use any GSM carrier.

Now, you want to run your iPad apps on that new unlocked iPhone 4. Let’s go over the steps below:

1. Go download the iTelePad2Pod app here.
2. Install the App to your applications folder in MacOSX and run it.
3. Your iPad must be jailbroken to get this working.
4. Enable SSH on your device if it is not already.
5. Follow the rest of the directions via the app.

Don’t expect much from this however. Not all apps will work with this trick, and most apps were not formatted for landscape on the iPhone. Also, in some of the apps, you will be missing some screen because the resolution is higher on the iPad, so the sides may be cut off on the phone. iMac rumor mill suggests new models could be coming next week

This one is obviously still very much in rumor territory, but a couple of separate reports have cropped up today that suggest Apple could be set to debut some updated iMacs as soon as next week.

That includes a report from 9 to 5 Mac that iMac orders are being delayed until May 2nd, despite the fact that they're still listed as shipping within 24 hours on Apple's website, and a separate confirmation from a trusted source of the site, who says that Apple will stop shipping iMacs to retailers this week in advance of next week's supposed release. That's further backed up by a report from Mac Rumors, which cites another source who says that Apple will be changing the promotional materials in its retail stores for a launch on Tuesday, May 3rd. Details are comparatively light on the rumored new iMacs themselves, but the safe money seems to be on Sandy Bridge processors and Thunderbolt ports.

Sony S1 and S2 dual-screen

Sony's hosting a press event in Tokyo today where it just made the first announcement: a pair of Android 3.0 tablets -- yes, the very two Honeycomb slabs we told you about first, back in February.

The first is the 9.4-inch S1 media tablet (aka, Qriocity focused) with a curved top much like a folded magazine and both front- and rear-facing cameras. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized "Quick and Smooth" touch panel UI with "Swift" web browser. It can also be used as a remote control for Sony gear thanks to integrated infrared. The second is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and cameras. While it sounds bulky, Kunimasa Suzuki just pulled the hinged tablet from his jacket pocket on stage. Sony takes advantage of the two screens with a custom book-style UI layout for its e-reader app, email (keyboard on one display with email on the other), and more. Nintendo Wii 2 “Stream” Pictures and Info Leaked!

Leaks for the Nintendo Wii “Stream” (codenamed Project Cafe) have been released in the form of images from NeoGAF. These images give a tentative look at the upcoming successor to the Wii, along with details about the kind of controllers available upon its release.

Much like the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo plans to implement small screens on the HD and Touch Sense controllers. These 1080p touch screens would display the portion of the split-screen designated for that player, causing the TV to display alternate camera angles, if any at all.

Roughly the size of an XBox 360, the “Stream” hearkens back to the appearance of the SNES, instead of modeling itself after its more recent predecessor. Despite it’s old school appearance, specs for the “Stream” are pretty impressive, bypassing both the XBox 360 and PS3 in terms of power and graphic capabilities.

The ultraslim Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is most definitely real, coming soon, and just so happens to be packing some fancy new battery technology as well. This intel comes straight from Lenovo's own servers, where a highly informative PDF (intended for reseller partners, but accessible to all) dishes the dirt on the upcoming laptop.

The X1's "slice" battery won't be user-replaceable, but what you lose in flexibility will be made up for in sheer performance gains, as Lenovo is touting it'll last three times as long as a normal battery and will recharge 2.5 times faster than previous ThinkPad cells. That's thanks to some fanciness named RapidCharge that will revitalize the X1 to 80 percent within 30 minutes. The presentation slides show the X1 right alongside Lenovo's latest Edge models, the E420s and E220s, as part of "a new generation of ThinkPads," and given that both of those are now shipping, the ultraslim, but still unannounced, X1 can't be far behind. Finally, just for some added intrigue, we've also spotted mention of an "X Slate" within the document -- any ideas as to what that might look like?

White iPhone 4 available at Vodafone UK

Yes, above is an actual picture of a white iPhone 4 box. There is word all over that these white phones are shipping to Vodafone UK and are starting to be stocked by retailers. These phones have been very elusive in the past, but guessing that the iPad2 comes in white as well, Apple probably has their hands on the materials to make these again.

When this phone was rung up in the UK and sold to a customer, Vodafone then sent out a notice halting all sales of these phones until next week. It is being reported that the release date for this phone will be Wednesday, April 27th. AT&T or Verizon have no updates at this time regarding their stock of the white iPhone 4. The model number is a bit different from the black one, guessing that the number represents the color.

It’s not surprising that Apple is releasing these phones now, given the fact that the white was always popular for their iPhone line. It is unknown of the quantity that each carrier will get or retailers will receive, but word is that it will be a limited quantity at first and will grow over the following weeks.

See that up there? That could be your next iPhone -- or it could be a tear-shaped dream. It's a mock-up of what is said to be the iPhone 5, according to anonymous sources quoted by Joshua Topolsky.

A continuation of the concepts laid out in our post-CES look at what's next for Apple, the design here is said to be thin, metal-backed, tapered, and sporting a 3.7-inch display with the same 960 x 640 resolution in the iPhone 4's retina display -- resulting in a slight drop from that phone's vaunted 326ppi density. The home button is quite obviously enlarged, possibly adding some thumbable gestures into the mix. Internals are said to include a "swipable" area, possibly meaning NFC, along with a Qualcomm Gobi chipset with support for CDMA and GSM, so this could be the one phone to rule all the carriers. Or, it might wind up only ever having domain over a single .PSD file. To us, well, it looks a little too thin to be packing all that and a bag of antennas as suggested and, with all the weight at the top, we can see this things flying out of hands left and right.

Update: The source has been updated with a note indicating that the bevel may be "a little exaggerated" in the above mock-up and that the back may not be metal after all.

Now that the news of a white iPhone 4 coming in Spring has been confirmed, earlier reports of a delayed iPhone 5 coming in 3rd quarter of 2011 did seem to be true. Now there are more reports substantiating these claims.

Reuters reports that 3 of their sources who have a good knowledge of Apple’s supply chain have said that iPhone 5 production will start in July or August and it will hit the market in September. According to these sources who decline to identify themselves, iPhone 5 will be pretty much similar to iPhone 4 except for a faster processor (dual core A5 of iPad?).

This news is contradicting earlier reports from a Korean site which confirmed a June 2011 release of iPhone 5, immediately following Apple’s WWDC. There are so many contradicting reports when it comes to iPhone 5 release date, it’s hard to know which to believe.

Sammy's load of ammo includes five patent infringements in South Korea, two in Japan, and three in Germany, though we've yet to hear more details about these claims.

Update: Reuters has shed some light on the actual patents Samsung is alleging are being infringed. The news organization reports they relate to "power reduction during data transmission, 3G technology for reducing errors during data transmission, and wireless data communication technology."

Microsoft and Nokia's industry-altering announcement of a strategic alliance back in February has today been bolstered with the signing of a definitive agreement between the two companies.

In announcing the inking of the paperwork, the Microkia crew point out that they're already hard at work developing "a portfolio" of Nokia Windows Phone devices, which will be shipping "in volume" in 2012, but there's still a twinkling hope that they can get something out on the market in 2011. Nokia devs have started porting key applications and services to Windows Phone, with mapping and navigation getting a highlight mention, while there will indeed be a "Nokia-branded global application store that leverages the Windows Marketplace infrastructure." Notably, this is described as a single portal where devs can serve their apps to users of Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40 devices -- it'll be interesting to see how they work out the details of that. There's also confirmation that Microsoft will pay Nokia multiple billions of dollars as part of the agreement, some of which will be spent on completing an intellectual property-sharing agreement between the two teams. So yes, the third ecosystem is well and truly on its way.

Bad time for Christina Aguilera and their fans as she was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Tuesday in West Hollywood, authorities said.

An extremely intoxicated Aguilera, 30, was taken into custody at 2:45 a.m. for her own safety and released around 7:30 a.m. after she sobered up, sheriff's Deputy Bill McSweeney said. The arrest will go on her record, but criminal charges will not be filed against the singer, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told L.A. Now.

"There will be no court date, and there will be no prosecution," Whitmore said.

After his girlfriend was released through a back entrance to avoid gathered paparazzi, Rutler, 25, was still in custody. His bail is set at $30,000.

The "Burlesque" star filed for divorce from music exec husband Jordan Bratman in October; the split is expected to be finalized in April. Rutler escorted her Feb. 6 to the Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas, where she botched the words to the national anthem, a song she's performed in front of crowds since she was a child. Iran sent a letter to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge. The letter claims the 2012 logo spells out “Zion,” a biblical term widely recognized to refer to the city of Jerusalem.

In comments carried by the official IRNA news agency Monday, secretary general Bahram Afsharzadeh said the letter urges other Muslim states to oppose the "racist logo."

"There is no doubt that negligence of the issue from your side may affect the presence of some countries in the games, especially Iran which abides by commitment to the values and principles," the letter said.

God Of Love Short Film: Luke Matheny A Surprise Winner

The God of Love took home the Oscar for live action short film on Sunday night at the Academy Awards. Luke Matheny, a surprise winner, is a graduate student in New York University’s film program.

Matheny is the writer, director, and star of God of Love, which is on odd 18-minute short film. This film was his student thesis in the graduate film program at NYU. God of Love is about a jazz singer who performs amazing dart tricks on stage.

What is his film “God of Love”, a short that he also stars in? On his website he describes it as, “The story follows the adventures of lounge-singing darts champion Raymond Goodfellow, whose prayers are answered — literally — when he receives a package of passion-inducing darts.”

Obviously out of his comfort zone, the grad student was excited to be on the red carpet before the Oscars telecast, and said that he was ”standing behind Robert Downey Jr, trying to get on TV.”

Matheny looked as he took the stage when his name was announced for winning live action short and even voiced what everybody else in the crowd and home viewers were thinking: “I should’ve got a haircut.”

Saturday night, Matheny sent out a message on his Facebook page to friends and family. “I sent out a link that said, ‘This is how I feel,’ and it was a clip from the end of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ So that summed up what this experience has been like.”

The Race So Far: It’s not surprising Russell hasn’t picked up anything so far — he has a habit of yelling at actors, and “The Fighter” wasn’t particularly prized for its style. The obvious big winner so far this season has been the prickly David Fincher, who won directing trophies at the Globes, BAFTA (even over native son Hooper), and from both New York and Los Angeles critics groups (although the equally prickly L.A. contingent made him share with Oliver Assayas, who directed “Carlos”).

Snowfall On San Francisco Hill Region

Hilly areas of San Francisco got a rare light dusting of snow, the National Weather Service said Saturday.

Snow fell briefly late Friday and early Saturday on the city’s Twin Peaks neighborhood and some other areas with higher elevations, meteorologist Mark Strobin said.

“A little bit up in the hills,” Strobin told The Associated Press. “It snowed down to about 400 feet.”

But there was only rain downtown and in other other areas of the near sea level city, and the snow that did fall disappeared rapidly.

The city last saw snow on the ground in 1976, when an inch fell.

Strobin said the higher regions might have had snow dustings since that measureable snow fell 35 years ago. He said it was still too early to tell how this event will be recorded.

Strobin, who is based in Monterey, Calif., said that city also got a rare dusting of snow.

The storm system moving across Northern California responsible for San Francisco’s snow also dumped more than 2 feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Just the idea of possible snow had the tech-savvy city looking skyward with anticipation.

One blogger posted a pretend ski map, noting possible beginner, intermediate and expert runs in the city’s hilly Bernal Heights neighborhood. A newly created website — isitsnowinginsfyet.com — gives a simple answer for anyone who is wondering.

The San Francisco Chronicle posted old photos of snow from 1882, 1951, 1964 and other rare instances of city snowfall — including one photo from the 1976 storm that shows gleeful school kids throwing snowballs.

On Friday, the storm prompted San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to take precautionary measures. He urged residents to watch out for icy road conditions, and, if possible, avoid driving during the storm’s peak. The city’s public works department was planning to offer free sandbags and emergency crews were on stand-by.

For snow to fall and accumulate in San Francisco, temperatures must drop to 36 degrees, precipitation must be falling and the ground must be chilled for several days beforehand, said Steve Anderson, also a National Weather Service forecaster.

Though it rarely gets that cold in San Francisco, where the surrounding bay and Pacific Ocean generally keeps temperatures moderate, temperatures in San Francisco were expected to drop into the 30s overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Step 7: Finally, you will have to verify that you actually own the old email address by clicking the Send Verification button. You can then log into your old email account and copy the confirmation code in the email. Paste that into the appropriate box. Click Verify.

Step 8: Now just sit back and watch all your emails get imported into the new Gmail account. If you have a lot of emails, it could take several hours, so be patient!

Remove the Downadup and Conficker worm

The Downadup, or Conficker, infection is a worm that predominantly spreads via exploiting the MS08-067 Windows vulnerability, but also includes the ability to infect other computers via network shares and removable media. Not since the Sasser and MSBlaster worms have we seen such a widespread infection as we are seeing with the Downadup worm. In fact, according to anti-virus vendor, F-Secure, the Downadup worm has infected over 8.9 million infected computers. Microsoft has addressed the problem by releasing a patch to fix the Windows vulnerability, but there are still many computers that do not have this patch installed, and thus the worm has been able to propagate throughout the world.

When installed, Conficker / Downadup will copy itself to your C:\Windows\System32 folder as a random named DLL file. If it has problems copying itself to the System32 folder, it may instead copy itself to the %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer or %ProgramFiles%\Movie Maker folders. It will then create a Windows service that automatically loads this DLL via svchost.exe, which is a legitimate file, every time you turn on your computer. The infection will then change a variety of Windows settings that will allow it to efficiently infect other computers over your network or the Internet.

Once the infection is running, you will find that you are no longer able to access a variety of sites such as Microsoft.com and many anti-virus vendors. It does this so that you cannot download removal tools or update your anti-virus programs. It will then perform the following actions in no specific order:

* Stop and start System Restore in order to remove all your current System Restore points so that you cannot roll back to a previous date where your computer was working properly.
* Check for Internet connectivity by attempting to connect to one of the following sites:
o aol.com
o cnn.com
o ebay.com
o msn.com
o myspace.com

* Attempts to determine the infection computer's IP address by visiting one of the following sites:
o http://www.getmyip.org
o http://getmyip.co.uk
o http://checkip.dyndns.org
o http://www.whatismyip.com/

* Download other files to be used as necessary.
* Scan the infected computer's network for vulnerable computers and try to infect them.

Some symptoms that may hint that you are infected with this malware are as follows:

* Anti-malware software stating you are infected with infections using the following names:
o Net-Worm.Win32.Kido
o W32/Conficker.worm.gen
o Worm.Conficker
o W32.Downadup
o W32/Downadup.AL
o W32/Confick-A
o Win32/Conficker.A
o Mal/Conficker
o Worm:Win32/Conficker.B
o Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen

* Automatic updates no longer working.
* Anti-virus software is no longer able to update itself.
* Unable to access a variety of security sites, such as anti-virus software companies.
* Random svchost.exe errors.

Automated Removal for Downadup and Conficker using BitDefender's Anti-Downadup tool:

1. Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that is open later in the fix.

2. Due to the fact that Downadup and Conficker do not allow you to connect to Microsoft and a variety of security sites you must first download the Windows patch and the removal tool from another computer and transfer the file to your infected PC. On a clean computer, download BitDefender's Anti-Downadup tool from the following location and save the file to your desktop. The current name of the file is bd_rem_tool.zip.

3. Next visit the following link and download the KB958644/MS08-067 security patch for your particular Windows operating system:

Look through the list and click on the link that corresponds to the version of Windows that is running on the infected machine. Then download the file from the page that opens and save it your desktop.

4. Now copy bd_rem_tool.zip and the Windows patch file to a floppy, CD, or USB drive so we can copy it to the infected PC.

5. Once the files are stored on a removable device, copy it back onto your infected PC's Windows desktop.

6. Once the Windows patch and bd_rem_tool.zip file are on your infected computer's desktop, you will need to first install the Windows patch. Simply double-click on the file that you downloaded from Microsoft's web site and follow the prompts to install the patch. This will make it so your computer does not become reinfected again after we clean the current infection. If the patch is already installed, the Microsoft patch will detect that and not reinstall it.

7. Now we need to extract the files from the bd_rem_tool.zip. You can do this by right-clicking on the bd_rem_tool.zip and then selecting the Extract All... menu option.

Now that the file has finished being extracted, click on the Finish button.

8. A folder will open containing two files. These files are named bd_rem_tool_console.exe and bd_rem_tool_gui.exe. Please double-click on the bd_rem_tool_gui.exe file to start the program. When you run this program, Windows may display a warning.

If you receive this warning, please click on the Run button to continue starting Anti-Downadup on your computer. If you did not receive this warning, then Anti-Downadup should have started and you can proceed to step 8.

9. You will now see a screen prompting you to start the scan or close the program.

Please click on the Start button to have the program scan your computer and remove any Downadup and Conficker infections on your computer.

10. Anti-Downadup will now start to scan your computer and determine if you are infected.

This process can take 10 minutes, so please be patient. When it is done, if your computer is clean it will tell you so and you can close the program. Otherwise, continue with the rest of the steps.

11. When Anti-Downadup has finished scanning your computer it will prompt you to reboot your computer in order to finish the cleaning process.

Press Yes button to allow the infected computer to be rebooted. If you do not reboot your computer, you will be left with a blue screen as Explorer was terminated during the cleaning process.

12. When the computer has finished rebooting you should no longer have the Conficker or Downadup infections on your computer. To see a log of what was deleted you can open the C:\Win32.Worm.Downladup.Gen.log file in Notepad.

Microsoft's latest ad: iTunes and the iPod are crazy expensive

We've been wondering when we'd see the next Laptop Hunters ad from Microsoft, but it looks like the company's throwing a change-up: its latest 30-second spot features Wes Moss, Certified Financial Planner, explaining that iTunes "costs a lot" while Zune Pass "costs a little." The argument, of course, is that at a buck a song (or more), filling up your iPod costs way more than the $15 / month cost of the Zune subscription service, but we've got a feeling that Wes just won't convince as many people as Lauren and Giampaulo -- while we certainly think Zune Pass is a great deal, especially with the 10 free tracks a month now included, most people have plenty of music from all kinds of sources already, and an additional monthly bill in the current economy doesn't seem all too appealing.

Plus, well, this argument has never really worked for services like Yahoo and Rhapsody in the past, so we're not sure it's going to work now. But that's just us -- we're sure you've got your own opinions, so check out the vid after the break and sound off.

Motorola's first Android phone to be the T-Mobile G1 v2?

T-Mobile confirmed on Saturday that it's launching "multiple" Android devices from "three partners" later this year, and since most people assume the HTC Magic / Sapphire / myTouch / whatever and the Samsung I7500 are pretty much locked in, speculation has generally centered around that mysterious G1 v2 and the identity of the third partner -- and it looks like it's going to be Motorola.

Not only did commenter Someperson notice that the button labels on the alleged G1 v2 are basically identical to those on other recently-launched Moto phones, Boy Genius Report says today that they can "more or less confirm" the v2 will be Schaumburg's first Android set -- a development that lines up perfectly with last month's rumors of a slider QWERTY piece. Yep, it all fits together nicely, except for the fact that HTC is oddly out of the loop on the sequel to the G1 -- but since T-Mobile owns that particular trademark, it can do whatever it wants, you know? Hopefully we'll find out more soon -- if that sketchy leaked roadmap is correct, we'll be seeing this guy in the fall.

When PCPrivacyDefender is installed it will be configured to start automatically and then scan your computer when you login to Windows. When the scan is finished it will list hundreds of exaggerated privacy issues on your computer and then state that you should purchase the program in order to repair these problems.

# When the tool first starts you will see a credits screen. Simply press any key on your keyboard to get to the next screen.

# You will now see a menu as shown in the image below. Press the number 2 on your keyboard and the press the enter key to choose the option Clean (safe mode recommended).

# The program will start cleaning your computer and go through a series of cleanup processes. When it is done, it will automatically start the Disk Cleanup program as shown by the image below.

This program will remove all Temp, Temporary Internet Files, and other files that may be leftover files from this infection. This process can take up to a few hours depending on your computer, so please be patient. When it is complete, it will close automatically and you will should continue with step 11.

# When Disk Cleanup is finished, you will be presented with an option asking Do you want to clean the registry ? (y/n). At this screen you should press the Y button on your keyboard and then press the enter key.

# When this last routine is finished, you will be presented with a red screen stating Computer will reboot now. Close all applications. You should now press the spacebar on your computer. A counter will appear stating that the computer will reboot in 15 seconds. Do not cancel this countdown and allow your computer to reboot.

# Once the computer has rebooted, you will be presented with a Notepad screen containing a log of all the files removed from your computer. Examine this log, and when you are done, close the Notepad screen.
